YOUR OPINION: most significant event from 1989-present?
In English, we are debating about which event in ’89-present is the most culturally, aesthetically, or historically significant to society.
We divided into groups based on what topic we debated about such as technology, crimes, politicians, etc.
My topic is entertainment, which includes books, movies, and TV shows. My group members have already chosen Toy Story, Harry Potter, SNL, and Spongebob Squarepants.
I need help with choosing something that can compete with those! Please help! Thanks so much!
My personal opinion is that the explosion of the internet and computer accessibility is the most significant event in recent times. Sites like google, youtube, facebook did not exist before 1989.
In your particular topic of entertainment… I would argue Youtube is the most significant event. Now wannabe entertainers can make a video of themselves and post it on Youtube. If they’re good, they can find themselves being called up by bands like Journey etc. Also amateur videographers are making video shorts. Almost anyone can get their fifteen minutes of fame on Youtube.
