"Knight and Day" a big misunderstanding

In the opening scene of James Mangold Knight and day, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz – two beautiful stars of Hollywood – collide by accident in an airport – twice. The delightful cruise and exchange a few words Diaz nervous, which was then part, addressed its flights. Then, a third match, Diaz ends on the same flight with Cruise. And what a flight it be! Kill everyone on the plane while is powdering her face in the break room. When she leaves, having worked up the courage to flirt with this handsome stranger, who says he accidentally killed all passengers – including pilots. She does smile, Tom Cruise.

The critics had their knives for Cruise, fresh from a pair of bombs and ill-fated talk show debut. That smile led them into a frenzy. The Chicago Tribune wrote that the producers were "willing to overlook galumphing mediocrity in order to concentrate on matters of dentistry." In Really? Time Out New York wrote: "This action arrogant and insensitive-comedy is nothing but teeth. "Could this be a new genre? dental spy comedy? Wait, there's more. The Wall Street Journal was "despair" in "Tom Cruise fixed smile."

That last one really hurts. Say what you want on a sofa Cruise-surf, but leave the Grin alone. Honestly, anyone that this scene could be a parody? Roy Miller kills everyone on the plane. He is a bad guy. And if it's a good boy uses unnecessary roughness. And yet, is entirely coincidental. He lands the plane, a pilot course. Then Diaz drugs and their transportation home sister – it was his destiny.

Later, then joins her and who are involved in a ridiculous car chase. Cruise jumps to the window of his car – is like a scene from the lethal Weapon 4 – and tries to seduce her, smiling and grimacing. A minute later, she asks him to stop killing people, but he has to go and kill more people. Through it all, he has an endearing habit of talking while bullets are whizzing around the two of them.

And – speaking bullets whizzing – later in the film, when Diaz decides she is in love with the violent, delusional, Cruise – who is drugged and stripped twice while she was unconscious – he asks for a kiss. Cruise, standing in an Italian style courtyard, past a blizzard of bullets – all conveniently his disappearance – which give her a kiss. Ridiculous!

Not summer blockbusters be worse? The Globe and Mail in the UK does not think: "None of that makes sense, but the strategy is that the lightness of tongue in cheek of the film is infectious enough to make us forget the inconsistencies. "

Okay, That all. See "Knight and Day" again. Think of it as an update of Hot Shots, Part Deux or Naked Gun. The inconsistencies are the whole point!

There, I said it.

The writer Patrick O'Neill mocks the way action films ignore chaos and violence because their heroes – as long as heroes have a lovely smile. Have a laugh at the way James Bond, Jason Bourne, or Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible Tom Cruise's character) seem to know everything, be able to do everything and be able to make something happen. He winks at the audience about good luck these characters seem to have outrageous. And last, laughs at the ease with which the heroes and heroines fall in love amid the chaos, confusion and horror they just endure.

Knight and day is a scream. A long overdue satire of crass Hollywood action movie.

Does anyone I get it? No. Even intelligent people in the New York Times missed the point: Knight and the day was "a loud, seemingly endless and incoherent input completely."

Hearings can be even smarter. After review of the film said a bomb in his hand Wednesday release Toy Story 3, history was over. He attributed the failure of the film, of course, but also in the marketing wrong, Tom Cruise's image problems, and, of course, Toy Story 3.

But the story continues. After only 13 days in delivery Knight and the day has made more than 49 million dollars from a budget of $ 117 million. His locker has been ongoing for the past four days (today is July 5), and is the fourth largest film despite the release of some films of high-profile vampires.

Perception and reality can be like night and day. But that is the point of the film, Right?
